The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila, a Honduran national, in connection with a fatal car accident in Dane County, Wisconsin. The incident involved Martinez-Avila driving the wrong way on a highway while intoxicated, resulting in the deaths of two teenagers, Hallie Helgeson and Brady Heiling.
On August 13, 2025, ICE detained Martinez-Avila following charges by Wisconsin law enforcement for two counts of felony vehicular homicide and impaired driving. Despite receiving less than an hour's notice from local authorities to make the arrest, ICE was able to detain her.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin commented on the case: "Hallie Helgeson and Brady Heiling had their whole lives ahead of them—and they would still be alive today if it weren’t for Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila—a criminal illegal alien from Honduras. Martinez-Avila driving drunk and the wrong way on a highway killed these two teens."
