Rep. Bob Donovan, a Republican member of the Wisconsin State House representing the 61st district since 2025, has recently addressed issues of crime and campus free speech in a series of social media posts.
On September 17, 2025, Donovan commented on a fatal incident involving police pursuit, stating: "An absolute tragedy. Idiotic criminals believe that running from the police is some game--it's not. There are real world consequences to your actions and now 3 family members are dead. I hope the justice system throws the book at this reckless individual."
Later that same day, Donovan criticized student attitudes toward free speech at the University of Wisconsin-Madison: "1 in 3 students at UW Madison believe violence is acceptable to shut down free speech. 3 of 4 students believe shouting down a speaker is acceptable. Why are Wisconsin taxpayers paying for this nonsense?" The statements reflect ongoing debates about campus climate and taxpayer funding in higher education.
On September 18, 2025, Donovan praised local law enforcement following an arrest: "Good work from the Milwaukee Police for apprehending the criminal without further danger to the public. Stay safe out there officers."
Donovan was elected to his seat in 2025 after replacing Amanda Nedweski as representative for Wisconsin's 61st House district.
