The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) has been named the top school district in the Madison area by Niche.com for the sixth year in a row. The district also achieved a #2 ranking among all school districts in Wisconsin.
Middleton High School received several distinctions, including being named the best public high school in the Madison area, third-best in Wisconsin, second-best college prep public high school statewide, and fourth-best high school for STEM subjects across Wisconsin.
These rankings come after Middleton High School announced it held the highest ACT composite score among public, non-charter schools in Dane County and ranked second statewide for 2025. Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report recognized Middleton High School as the top high school in the Madison metro area for 2025-2026.
At the middle school level, Kromrey Middle School was ranked first and Glacier Creek Middle School third among public middle schools in the Madison area according to Niche.com.
Elementary schools within MCPASD also performed strongly. Pope Farm Elementary was named best public elementary school in the Madison area and ninth overall statewide. Elm Lawn Elementary ranked second locally and sixteenth statewide; Northside Elementary was third locally; Sunset Ridge Elementary placed fourth among local elementary schools.
Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue commented on these results: "These prestigious rankings across our District reflect the ongoing commitment and dedication of our incredible educators, students, and families. It also shows the strong support we have in our community for public education. We are proud of our long-standing tradition of academic excellence, and we’re excited to continue working together to foster learning environments where all our students feel inspired and empowered to grow into the best version of themselves."
