City of Madison issued the following announcement on June 16.

The City of Madison Common Council passed an honoring resolution on Tuesday calling for the celebration of the inaugural Civic Season from Juneteenth through Independence Day in Madison.

The City of Madison Clerk’s Office will kick off the Civic Season by participating in Kujichagulia Madison’s Juneteenth celebration at Penn Park this Saturday, June 19th, 12:00 – 5:00pm. The Clerk’s Office will also be at the City of Madison Fleet Services grand opening of the new facility at 4151 Nakoosa Trail on Tuesday, June 22nd, 3:30 – 8:00pm. Both events are free and open to the public.

Voting and election information will be available at both events, but folks can also find out more about connecting with their Common Council alderperson or getting involved on a City of Madison board, commission, or committee. More events may be added in-person or virtually.

The inaugural Civic Season is a collaboration between Made By Us and Civics Unplugged, two organizations who work to present American history in a way that is relevant and provocative in order to encourage and inspire civic participation in younger generations of Americans. The Civic Season will create a new kind of tradition around civic identity that includes a more complete understanding of American history and empowers folks to engage with the events happening right now that will shape this country’s future.
