DeForest Windsor Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 1.

Robotics Family Fun Day was held on February 19 to celebrate the work of students in the Robotics Club (grades 4-8). The Club provides students with an opportunity to express their skills, knowledge, and creativity through conceptualizing, designing, and programming robots.

Hands-on activities for students and their families included:

  • STEM/Robotics demos
  • Robotics tournament
  • Coding candy grab
  • Capture the flag with robots
  • Mini-engineering building projects
  • Robot photo booth
According to DAMS Computer Science Teacher, Sarah Shagam and 21st Century Skills teacher Angela Flickinger-Pierce at Harvest Intermediate School, there are over 80 students in grades 4-8 participating in the Robotics Club this year. Shagam and Flickinger thanked the many family volunteers who helped make the event a success.

According to School/Community Relatons Coordinator Debbie Brewster, “A special thank you goes out to EVCO Plastics for their support of the event. They hosted a pizza lunch, recruited employees to help out during the day, and put one of their universal robots on display.” “EVCO President Dale Evans and several of their employees continue to be invaluable partners in our school district’s efforts to bring hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Math) programming to our students.”
