"The force is strong at the Rock County Historical Society (RCHS) as it waits the arrival of an exhibit called 'The Nostalgia Awakens,'" NBC15 reported.
The Kenner toy company made Star Wars toys based on the three original films between 1978 and 1985. Dozens of original action figures, spacecraft, and adored creatures will be on display through the month of July, according to NBC15.
Timothy Mahs, executive director of the Rock County Historical Society Museum and Visitor Center in Janesville, said this exhibit is unique for the organization and presents new opportunities for the area.
"[Star Wars] is a topic we've never ventured into," Mahs told NBC15. "I'm really excited to see a lot of new faces and a lot of people."
Jared Roll, a "Star Wars" enthusiast, will open the exhibit with a presentation on May 11 at 6:00 p.m. Roll will put the toys into a broader context by telling the story of the "Star Wars" franchise, with a focus on how it helped transform the movie merchandising and licensing industry.
Mahs said he hopes viewing the exhibit will give fans a chance to share their love of the franchise with the next generation.
"This could be a bonding moment for dads or grandparents with their younger children or grandchildren, to be coming through and pointing these things out," he told NBC15. "It should be a very fun, interactive exhibit."
Tickets for the exhibit are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under; admission for kids 5 and under is free, NBC15 reported. There is a special family rate of $35 per family.
