South Winnequah Road Reconstruction
The City’s South Winnequah Road reconstruction project begins July 11th and will run through the beginning of September. The project zone from Schluter Rd. to Bridge Rd. will be completely closed to through traffic. Local residents and traffic will be allowed through the site as needed to access properties within the corridor. Please adhere to the posted detour.
The project includes the following:
Stormwater improvements
Utility relocation
New pavement and pavement striping
Speed humps
Intersection realignment, including improved sightlines by moving stop bars and trimming trees and bushes at intersections.
Sidewalk installation on the East side of the street
Relocating curb and gutter and removal of existing bumpouts
Install a new pathway into Frost Woods Beach Park
Undergrounding of electrical and communication lines (Owen Rd. to Maywood Rd.)
LED streetlight retrofits
Retaining walls and driveway apron improvements
Driveway reinstallation due to removals around bumpouts, curb removals, and sidewalk installation.
Some tree removals, tree trimming, clearing, and grubbing (No large oaks are being removed as part of this project)
The City will be taking significant precautions while working around mature trees along the project zone. Where applicable the City will be requiring its contractor to sawcut roots instead of tearing them out and then capping them with a sealant to help prevent fungal growth. The City will also be applying Cambi Stat, which will help reinvigorate tree root systems and promote root health and root growth. Most of the tree removals along the route will be in areas where the tree canopy is already being negatively impacted by overhead lines. Less than 10 mature trees are being removed during this project. Almost all removals in this project zone are either plant species considered to be invasive or nuisance or they are 3” or smaller caliper.
