Metro Transit reports preliminary rise in bus rapid transit ridership

Metro Transit has released preliminary data indicating a rise in ridership across its system. Since the introduction of Bus Rapid Transit, overall ridership has increased by 10 percent. Specifically, the Rapid A Route has experienced a nearly 20 percent increase compared to figures from November and December 2023.

Changes to Metro's fare collection and fleet technology systems during the latter half of 2024 led to inaccuracies in the old fare box technology's final months. In 2025, Metro introduced a new method for counting ridership using Automatic Passenger Counters (APC). These counters must undergo certification before their data is considered "official," a process expected to be completed by mid-2025. Despite this, Metro expresses confidence in the current data.

Once certified, Metro will cease using data from the outdated farebox system as it is being phased out due to its declining reliability. The APC data suggests a significant increase in ridership. As more information becomes available, updates will be provided periodically.
