A parent advocate from Wisconsin recently took to social media to express disappointment after learning that Dave County is looking to become the first “sanctuary” city for transgender and nonbinary people.

“Madison, WI: Woke activists plan to make Dane County, WI a 'sanctuary city' for 'trans and non-binary' kids," said Scarlett Johnson in a Twitter post. "They declare that kids cannot be prevented from: Being exposed to pornographic materials, Participating in sexualized drag queen shows, Potential sterilization and medical harm from cross sex hormones, Removing their genitalia/reproductive organs. Governor Evers to Newsom, 'hold my beer.’"

In another post she said, “Why is Madison trying to out-woke California!”

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, this sanctuary aspect includes minors. The resolution for the consideration was put forth by Dane County Supervisor Rick Rose earlier in the month. The resolution is scheduled for a vote this week.

Out of 37 county supervisors, 31 are in favor, according to the Journal Sentinel. The resolution is centered on providing support for transgender and nonbinary people, which includes advocating for youth support through county school boards. It also urges county law enforcement to move gender-affirming care to the bottom of their priorities.

“In this hostile environment, some cities and counties across the country are taking steps to support and protect trans and nonbinary individuals," the resolution states. It proceeds to list other cities in the nation that have similar protections in place, such as Kansas City, MO and Austin, TX. "Dane County values its transgender and nonbinary residents and vigorously opposes measures that would allow legal violence toward trans people in accessing gender-affirming care or expression.”

The resolution adds: "NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Dane County Board of Supervisors firmly states its commitment to protect transgender and nonbinary individuals, and believes that access to health care is a fundamental right and all people in Dane County and the State of Wisconsin should have access to all health care, including gender affirming care.”
