The Madison Metropolitan School District is celebrating the achievement of four of its own who have been honored with awards from the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. Among the recipients are West High School teacher Mai Her, Transition Education Program Teacher Leader Jani Koester, and two exemplary seniors, Anvika Annyapu and Anna Uriostegui.
Mai Her, recognized for her dedication to inspiring students, has been an English teacher at West High since 2011. Her passion for instilling a love of learning in her students has earned her the prestigious Teacher Fellowship Award, which acknowledges educators for their leadership and service both inside and outside the classroom.
Jani Koester's commitment to supporting the Transition Education Program (TEP) at MMSD, designed to break down barriers to education for children experiencing homelessness, has not gone unnoticed. Koester's efforts to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed have been rewarded with well-deserved recognition.
Among the student honorees, Anvika Annyapu from Vel Phillips Memorial High School stood out for her exceptional academic performance and initiative, earning her the Student Excellence and Initiative Scholarship. Similarly, Anna Uriostegui, a senior at West High School, was commended for her active involvement in various activities and her leadership within the community.
