Madison College is gearing up to host a diversity vendor marketplace at the Truax campus on Thursday, April 18, featuring products from over 20 area small businesses. The event, open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., aims to showcase a variety of items such as clothing, candles, gift items, jewelry, and art.
Kim Henderson, Madison College's auxiliary services director, expressed the importance of this initiative, stating, "We hope to itemize products for sale in the bookstore as we continue to build partnerships with these vendors." Henderson highlighted that the marketplace event will not only raise awareness of diversity and inclusion in the bookstore but also promote diverse products to consumers, introducing fresh ideas appealing to various demographics.
The ultimate goal is to diversify the existing product lines at the Madison College Bookstore and attract new customers. Henderson emphasized the significance of collaboration by mentioning the partnerships with organizations like the Black Chamber of Commerce, the Latino Chamber of Commerce, the Hmong Chamber of Commerce, and the Center for Black Women.
The Madison College Bookstore, known for selling branded apparel, accessories, gift items, and student supplies, will serve as the venue for the Diversity Marketplace. The proceeds from the bookstore sales contribute to supporting students and the college community.
The marketplace event on April 18 promises to be a unique opportunity for both the College and the community to engage with a wide array of products from local minority, women, disabled, veteran, and LGBT+ businesses, in line with the mission to foster inclusivity and diversity.
Attendees can visit the Madison College Bookstore located at 1701 Wright St. Cafe Mall, with parking available in visitor lots and designated handicap spots.
