Twenty-three seniors across three Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) high schools have been named among 16,000 semifinalists out of approximately 1.3 million eligible candidates in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
“Our students are at the center of what we do each and every day,” said Superintendent Dr. Joe Gothard. “As a district, we are proud of this group’s efforts, and we congratulate them on being invited to continue in the National Merit Scholarship process. We are cheering for them as they advance to the next steps.”
MMSD tied Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District for the second-most semifinalists (23) produced by a district in the State of Wisconsin. Additionally, Madison West High School had the second-most scholars (15) of any individual school in the state, behind Middleton High School (23).
Semifinalists were determined based on their performance on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which tested participants in evidence-based reading, writing, language, and mathematics.
