The Madison Clerk’s Office is addressing a data processing error that resulted in duplicate absentee ballots being sent to approximately 2,000 voters. The issue was identified and corrected swiftly, ensuring no further ballots are affected.

The Clerk’s office has been reaching out to affected voters individually, advising them to submit only one ballot and destroy the duplicate to prevent confusion. The duplicate ballots contain identical barcodes; thus, if a voter submits both, only one will be counted. Once scanned, the voting system prevents submission of another ballot with the same barcode. Additionally, the poll book marks the voter as having submitted their absentee ballot as an extra measure against submitting a second ballot.

Voters with questions about their ballots can contact the Clerk’s Office at 608-266-4601 or clerk@cityofmadison.com. Other inquiries should be directed to City Communications Manager Dylan Brogan.
