Representative Lisa Subeck attended the White House State Convening on Child Care in Washington, DC, this week. The event included senior Administration officials, child care advocates, and other state legislative leaders. Rep. Subeck, who has a background in early childhood education and advocacy for working families, discussed strategies to improve access to quality child care.
“Thank you to President Biden and Vice-President Harris for their leadership in ensuring every American has access to affordable, high-quality childcare,” said Rep. Subeck. “Working families across the country are being forced to choose between keeping their jobs and taking care of their children.”
In Wisconsin, the average annual cost of infant care exceeds $11,000. Additionally, 54% of Wisconsinites live in areas with limited or no quality childcare options. During the pandemic, Governor Tony Evers used federal funds to establish the Child Care Counts program to help providers remain operational and enable parents to return to work. With this funding nearing its end, legislative action is needed to stabilize and expand access to quality care.
“Today, at the White House, I had the opportunity to share ideas and learn from the successes of other states facing similar child care challenges,” said Rep. Subeck. “I look forward to turning these ideas into action during the upcoming legislative session.”
Rep. Subeck has represented Wisconsin's 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
