Applications are scheduled to open on April 1 for the fourth annual Madison Youth Poet Laureate, as announced by the Madison Arts Commission and Madison Poet Laureate Steven Espada Dawson. The program is a collaboration between the City of Madison and the National Youth Poet Laureate initiative, organized by Urban Word.

This initiative seeks to recognize young poets by offering them opportunities to present their work on both regional and national platforms. According to organizers, the program aims to highlight the exceptional voices of young poets within the community.

Dawson, along with members of the Madison Arts Commission and other community literary partners, emphasized the importance of this platform for young poets in Madison. They expressed their intention to offer a formal stage to promote the literary talents of youth in the area.
