The City of Madison has surpassed its goal to compost 22,000 pounds of food scraps at farmers' market drop-off sites this year. The city announced that it has collected over 24,000 pounds so far, with more expected as the year progresses.
"We are thrilled to announce that not only have we received our goal weight – we have stampeded past it," stated the release. This achievement is credited to the contributions from residents and the efforts of Sustain Dane interns and volunteers at the market sites. Robert Pierce and the Neighborhood Food Solutions farm were also acknowledged for their role in accepting and composting the scraps.
Residents are encouraged to continue bringing food scraps to designated locations. The West Community Farmers’ Market operates every Saturday morning until November 2, 2024. The Eastside Farmers’ Market and South Madison Farmers' Market are open on Tuesdays during late afternoon hours, closing on October 29, 2024.
Further information about market locations and acceptable scraps can be found on the Streets Division’s website at www.cityofmadison.com/FoodScraps.
