Board discusses staffing progress, schedule changes, and new sustainability committee

The Board of Education meeting on October 14, 2024, began with a report from Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue. Dr. Monogue announced the start of Homecoming Week and invited the community to join various events, including a parade and a Hall of Fame induction ceremony. She also highlighted an upcoming "Safety and Security" night at Pope Farm Elementary School.

Amber Kiggens-Leifheit, Director of the MCPASD Education Foundation, presented their annual report, outlining achievements such as awarding $92,000 in scholarships and funding for various programs. The Foundation aims to continue supporting equitable access and educational opportunities.

Dr. Barb Buffington and Sherry Smith shared the October 2024 Staffing Report, noting improvements in staff diversity and retention rates. The District has increased its representation of staff of color to 13.59% and improved overall retention rates to 91.74%.

Middle School Principals Ken Metz and Dominique Ricks discussed potential schedule changes for the 2025-2026 school year to increase instructional time in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). These changes are under consideration but have not yet been approved by the Board.

The District is seeking a waiver from certain requirements of Wisconsin Act 95 for Clark Street Community School due to its competency-based grading system. A public hearing will be held before applying for this waiver.

Superintendent Jerrud Rossing reported an increase in student enrollment compared to last year, primarily due to open enrollment from other districts.

The Board approved updates to the Code of Conduct with minor revisions, which will be distributed soon.

Lastly, Catherine Kells was appointed as a member of the newly formed Sustainability Committee focused on planning sustainability initiatives across various areas within the District.
