Middleton High School students are taking an active role in preparing for their civic duties by learning about the voting process and registering to vote. Recently, Senior Advisory students at Middleton High School participated in a voter registration presentation. This event was led by U.S. Government student tutors, with contributions from Carly Persson, Village Administrator and Economic Development Director for the Village of Cross Plains, and Becky Ward, Administrative Assistant and Court Clerk.

The presentation focused on encouraging youth voter participation and provided education on the logistics of voter registration, absentee voting, early voting options, and maintaining active voter status when moving or changing addresses.

This initiative marked the beginning of a four-day student-led voter registration drive at Middleton High School. During this period, student leaders provided resources about voter registration and urged students to research candidates for the 2024 elections.

Two student leaders shared their thoughts on the importance of voting:

Akshay Manna stated: "When you live in a democracy, it is not just your right but your responsibility to participate in that democracy because the moment you stop participating, you stop having a voice, and you stop taking our country where we want it to go—especially with young people. We have some of the lowest voter turnout in all age groups. Making sure we know how to register to vote, that we can vote, and that we go to vote helps us have a voice in the country that we live in."

Dhriti Prakash added: "Our age group has a really big impact on the elections. We are voting for our future. We should be determining our own future and shouldn't just let the older generations decide because this is for the next four years, and that is a really big turning point in our lives, so it is important that we vote for our own futures."

The school expressed pride in seeing its students take positive action towards their futures while staying informed about current events.
