The Madison City Clerk’s Office is set to observe National Election Hero Day on November 4. This civic holiday honors the essential role of poll workers in ensuring elections are fair, accessible, and transparent. In Madison, more than 3,300 officials will be on duty at polling stations.

Poll workers in Madison undergo an hour of training before each election. Some of these workers are appointed by the Republican Party and Democratic Party, while others remain unaffiliated. Regardless of their affiliations, all poll workers operate in a non-partisan manner at the polls.

Their responsibilities include checking voters into the poll book, registering voters at the polls, issuing ballots, and processing absentee ballots. Throughout Election Day, they ensure that the number of voters matches the number of ballots counted.

The City Clerk’s Office expressed gratitude to all poll workers for their dedication to serving the community. The office stated that its goal is "that each eligible voter will be able to cast a ballot and have that ballot counted."
