Alex Kaiser, who described himself as an "excellent burnout," found a new direction in life at Madison College. After six years of uncertainty following high school, Kaiser decided to enroll at the college, a decision he calls one of the best he's ever made. He was among 1,217 students who graduated this fall and had the honor of being the student speaker at the commencement ceremony held on December 12 at the Alliant Energy Center Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison.

The graduating class of fall 2024 included a significant number from nursing, emergency medical technician, and liberal arts programs. Most graduates were aged 22 or younger, with a substantial portion aged between 23-39. Over 11% were over 40.

The event also marked the final commencement for retiring President Jack E. Daniels III, who has been with Madison College since 2013. During his tenure, Daniels expanded program offerings and increased diversity within the student body from 22% to 35%. At his last ceremony, Daniels reflected on his career highlights and offered advice to graduates: “As you leave here this evening, remember: each day is a blank page for you to write your own story."

Kaiser shared his transformative journey during his time at Madison College. By becoming actively involved in various activities such as park clean-ups and STEM Club meetings, he found success when he "stopped pussyfooting and went all in." His engagement with the community led him to work at both the Volunteer Center and Tutoring Center while participating in student government.

He plans to continue his education by transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Madison in January for a bachelor's degree in Applied Math, Engineering, and Physics. Reflecting on his personal growth during his studies at Madison College, Kaiser expressed newfound confidence and gratitude for opportunities that helped him grow.

In closing remarks to fellow graduates, Kaiser encouraged them: “Be proud of yourself for completing the first step toward becoming a happier and healthier you."
