The Chazen Art Museum at the University of Wisconsin-Madison hosted a unique study day event on December 12, featuring five therapy dogs from Dogs on Call. The event provided students with an opportunity to take a break from their studies and enjoy the company of therapy dogs Millie, Luna, April, Willy, and Jessie.
UW senior Lucy Sloane-Spice expressed her appreciation for the calming presence of the dogs, saying, “It’s such a comfortable space. It’s nice cause they bring such a calm energy. It reminds me of being at home with my dog.”
In addition to interacting with the therapy dogs, students had access to a breakfast and coffee bar and could study in a quiet area surrounded by artwork. Jamie Prey, events coordinator at the Chazen Art Museum, highlighted these features as part of the day's offerings.
Therapy dog Jessie was seen sitting with freshman Annabel Nelson during the event. Staff members José Franqui and Grace Pietruszka also took time to meet Luna up close. Luna's easygoing temperament made her popular among students.
Millie, a black Labrador retriever owned by Todd Trampe, greeted students while Trampe distributed trading cards featuring Millie's information. Willy, another therapy dog owned by UW English professor Anja Wanner, received gentle pets from students as he dozed off after participating in another university event.
The study day event provided an opportunity for students like Jordana Reisberg, Catie Stumpf, and Nicole Seuls to interact with Willy despite his initial challenges in training.
Overall, this initiative offered UW-Madison students a heartwarming respite during their busy academic schedules.
