Madison College is set to host the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) for Region 3 from January 7 to 12, 2024. The event is a platform for theater, creativity, and collaboration.
Madison College, one of the few two-year colleges chosen to host this festival, aims to highlight its facilities and commitment to the arts. The college also seeks to showcase the winter charm of Madison, Wisconsin.
KCACTF is a national program that acknowledges and supports talent in various fields such as playwriting, acting, directing, theatre management, advocacy, and design. The Region 3 Festival will feature artistic works by students and faculty from Midwest colleges and universities.
Participants at the festival will have opportunities to engage with professional artists across musical theatre, directing, design, journalism, and advocacy through workshops and performances.
A keynote session will be led by Brian Quijada, an Emmy-nominated playwright known for his solo show "Where Did We Sit on the Bus?" His works have gained national acclaim. Quijada has received awards like the Jeff Award in Solo Performance and Sound Design. His song "The Always Song" was Nickelodeon’s Hispanic Heritage Song in 2021.
Other notable guests include A.J. Links C.S.A., an Emmy-nominated casting director; Jeff Mosser from Milwaukee Repertory Theater; Hannah Joyce from Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis; and Jing Zhao, a sound designer originally from Singapore.
Miranda Hawk of Madison College expressed honor at hosting KCACTF again: “Our college’s dedication to the arts... makes this an unforgettable experience for our students.”
