The City of Madison is nearing the end of its first phase for naming snowplows, with submissions closing on January 24, 2025, at 4:00 pm. This initiative is part of a broader effort organized by Wisconsin Salt Wise to engage the community in a creative naming process for the city's snow equipment.
To date, over 750 suggestions have been received, showcasing a wide array of creativity. Submissions include references from various aspects of pop culture, such as sports legends, video games, musicians, and even dialogue from "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Some entries are humorous or incorporate cheese puns, reflecting Wisconsin's cultural ties.
Popular names that have emerged in other regions are also making an appearance among the submissions. These include "Big Leplowski," "CTRL+SALT+DELETE," and "Plowy McPlowface."
Residents who wish to contribute their ideas can do so by emailing their suggestions to dropoff@cityofmadison.com. Additional details about the naming process and photos of the five snowplowing vehicles are available on the city's snowplow naming webpage.
