The Madison Arts Commission has announced a significant call for existing works of art as part of its Public Art Program. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive list of pre-qualified visual and public art pieces for future municipal projects in Madison. The database will facilitate the acquisition, loaning, licensing, and commissioning of public artwork throughout the city.

Selected artworks will be eligible for various public art opportunities across different City divisions and departments. Although submitting an artwork does not ensure a purchase, loan, license, or commission, inclusion in the pre-qualified list will streamline the arts acquisition process.

Artists from all media disciplines are invited to apply by submitting images of their 2- or 3-dimensional, digital, or time-based works. Each artist may submit up to ten artworks annually.

Those interested in future opportunities can subscribe to updates via the Madison Arts Commission newsletter.

Projects that might utilize works from this call include:

- Licensed images for Madison trash or recycling trucks celebrating local environment and history.

- Wallpaper designs for the Division of Civil Rights with a focus on civil rights movement history.

- Art acquisitions or loans for renovated spaces in the City-County Building.

- Images for the Art on Utility Boxes program, requiring artists to reside in Madison.

Submissions are due by noon on Friday, February 14, 2025. They will be reviewed during the first round at the Madison Arts Commission Meeting on February 19, 2025.
