The University of Wisconsin–Madison has announced a leadership change in its Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA). Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin and Provost Charles Isbell, Jr. made the announcement on Wednesday.

Dr. LaVar Charleston, who has been at the helm of the division for three years, will step down from his role as vice chancellor. He will return to his previous position as a clinical professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis within the School of Education. This change is effective immediately. Provost Isbell will assume the role of acting director until an interim director is appointed.

The decision follows an internal review that highlighted concerns regarding financial operations and fiscal decisions within DDEEA. On January 7, it was communicated to the division's leadership that financial oversight would be transferred to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.

Despite these changes, events, programs, and services offered by DDEEA are expected to continue under Isbell's guidance along with support from the current senior leadership team. The university assured that there should be no direct impact on students participating in DDEEA programs.

The institution emphasized its commitment to providing all students and employees with opportunities to succeed and feel included on campus.
