The federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has issued a directive that could affect the funding for services in Madison, according to Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. The mayor expressed concern about the potential impact on tens of millions of dollars allocated for city services.
Mayor Rhodes-Conway stated, "Today’s directive from the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has the potential to impact tens of millions of dollars in services for the residents of Madison." She emphasized that city officials are currently assessing how this directive will affect them both immediately and in the future.
She acknowledged there are many uncertainties at present, saying, "Right now, there are many unanswered questions and we are working rapidly to make sense of this sweeping action which seems to be evolving by the hour."
City staff have begun compiling an inventory and calculating the dollar amount of federal funds received by Madison. They aim to determine which services might be affected by these recent federal actions. Mayor Rhodes-Conway assured that more detailed information would be shared once their assessment is complete.
"We will provide a more detailed update as soon as that information is complete," she added.
