The University of Wisconsin–Madison has initiated a search for two new ombuds, as announced by Provost Charles Isbell and the UW Ombuds Office. The selected candidates are expected to start their roles on June 1 and December 1, 2025. The university is looking for one retired academic staff member and one retired faculty member from UW–Madison to fill these positions.
The Ombuds Office serves as a resource for all UW–Madison employees, including faculty, academic staff, university staff, graduate assistants, post-docs, and student staff members who seek help with work-related issues. Currently, there are seven ombuds at the university who provide an informal and confidential environment for employees to voice concerns and explore solutions. They maintain impartiality and independence from administrative offices while advocating for fairness in the workplace.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications by March 31, 2025. Candidates should be retired faculty or academic staff with extensive experience in administrative processes and human resources. Ombuds typically serve a term of 37 months part-time, with compensation for about ten hours of work per week.
