Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is set to commence its spring musical season across four high schools. Vel Phillips Memorial High School will lead the season with "Something Rotten," scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15. The school aims to continue its success following a Jerry Award for Outstanding Performance last year with "The Addams Family."
La Follette High School is preparing a rendition of "Chicago: Teen Edition," which will be performed on February 28, March 1, and March 6-9. West High School plans to present Disney's "The Little Mermaid" on February 28, March 1, and March 6-8. East High School will close the season with "Sister Act," taking place May 2-4 and May 8-10. Tickets for these performances will soon be available on the respective websites of West and East High Schools.
Tickets can be purchased online or in person. La Follette, Vel Phillips Memorial, and West high schools have seen significant theater renovations thanks to the community-backed facilities referendum in 2020. East High’s theater benefited from upgrades as part of a previous referendum in 2015.
“Musical theater is a hands-on experience that allows students to showcase their brilliance not only in the classroom but up on stage,” stated Cindy Green, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. “We are excited to be able to provide these opportunities to our scholars and to invite the community to see them perform.”
