The Madison Arts Commission is calling for artists to participate in the 2025 Art on the Rooftop exhibition at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This free sculpture exhibition aims to highlight the rooftop gardens as a key attraction in Madison.

Monona Terrace and the Madison Arts Commission are looking for artworks that engage visitors and complement Wright's organic architecture. The commission will select five sculptures, with four displayed on the William T. Evjue Rooftop Gardens from May to October 2025. Artists selected for this six-month display will receive $1,500. Additionally, one sculpture will be exhibited year-round on Olin Terrace from May 2025 to April 2026, with the artist receiving $2,600.

The sculptures will be placed in high-traffic public areas without supervision. Proposed artworks must meet several criteria: they should be original, created within the past five years, safe for all ages, constructed of durable materials, maintenance-free during the exhibition period, suitable for outdoor display in severe weather conditions, weigh under 200 pounds for easy placement in garden beds, and capable of being attached to a concrete pad.

Key dates include a submission deadline of March 13, 2025; artist notifications by March 21; installation from May 5-8; removal of rooftop sculptures from November 3-6; and removal of Olin Terrace sculptures from April 6-9, 2026.

For more information on submissions, refer to the Madison Arts Commission Call for Artists.
