Middleton High School's Relay for Life Club is organizing a fundraiser on Saturday, May 10, to support the American Cancer Society. The event invites MCPASD students, family members, and community members to participate.
"Relay for Life is a student-led club at Middleton High School that focuses on raising cancer awareness along with money donated from our community that gets sent directly to the American Cancer Society," said Jacob Francois, a senior and co-president of the club.
The family-friendly event will feature games, food, and activities suitable for all ages. The club plans to sell "Cards vs. Cancer" t-shirts as part of their fundraising efforts.
Additionally, the event aims to honor those undergoing cancer treatment and remember those who have passed away due to the disease. "We'll have games set out, face painting, a set of challenges, but most importantly our luminaria event where we honor those who have fought cancer," Francois explained. He encouraged families to create bags in memory or honor of loved ones battling cancer for inclusion in the luminaria night.
"Our main goal is to honor those who have battled cancer and have a fun and memorable night," Francois added.
Middleton High School has supported the club for several years with assistance from the American Cancer Society and Ben White, a former associate athletic director at the school. Bob Hutchinson, a teacher at Middleton High School, currently advises the club.
"Personally, I've had the pleasure of being part of the Relay for Life team since my freshman year," Francois shared. "My favorite part without a doubt is the feeling of doing good for your community – the feeling that you're making a difference and helping to provide for the next big cancer research breakthrough."
