More than 150 students from Middleton High School, Kromrey Middle School, and Glacier Creek Middle School participated in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Solo & Ensemble Festival at UW-Platteville on April 26. These students qualified for the state festival by achieving high scores at local festivals held earlier in February and March.

During the event, students performed solos or in small ensembles before a judge and audience, receiving scores and feedback on their performances. Several students from MCPASD were honored with the WSMA State Exemplary Performance Award. This award is given to musical performances that significantly exceed expected school levels.

Each of the 20 judges at the festival could nominate only two performances out of more than 1,000 to receive this award. A record number of 47 MCPASD performances were nominated for an Exemplary Performance Award, with 15 ultimately receiving it. This accounted for 10% of all nominations made across the state during that weekend.

In addition to UW-Platteville, other state festival sites included UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, and the School District of West Salem.

The following MCPASD students were either nominated for or received an Exemplary Performance Award: Nithya Allu, Lily Hanson, Audrey Kim, Pete Navratil (Marimba Quartet), Linus Ballard (Tenor Solo), Aditya Behara, Aiden Wijeyakulasuriya, Jeffrey Chang (Woodwind Trio), MHS Flute Choir members Emma Bickett et al., Fritz Bush (Trumpet Solo), MHS Chamber Singers including Dina Abdel-Megid et al., Roger Chang et al. (Percussion Ensemble), Andrew Chen et al. (Cello Choir), Joanne Choi (Flute Solo), Eunice Chung (Cello Solo) among others.

Congratulations are extended to all MCPASD students who participated in this prestigious event.
