Carnelian Art Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin, is set to host its third art exhibition of the year, featuring four solo shows. The gallery, located at 221 King St., Suite 102, will present works by artists Maria Schirmer, Mark Soderling, Camille Davis, and Dylan Waddell.

Maria Schirmer's "Synchronized Burn" focuses on unity amid chaos. Mark Soderling's "Expressions of Home" explores themes of belonging. Camille Davis's "Found Forms" reflects her bond with nature. Dylan Waddell's "Trial and Error" delves into risk-taking and experimentation through collage.

The exhibition opens on July 3 and runs until the end of August. A reception will be held on July 11 at 5 p.m., where the first 25 visitors will receive a ticket for a free drink at Oz by Oz, a nearby cocktail bar. Light refreshments will also be available, and admission is free.

At the reception, Schirmer will give an artist talk at 6 p.m., discussing her work that includes an interactive piece titled “Murmuring.” This piece illustrates how starlings form aerial formations to avoid predators. Visitors can interact with it by designing bird-shaped mirrors to add to a large canvas.

Schirmer encourages reflection on community contributions during societal challenges. She stated: “Before colonization, fire was used strategically by indigenous land stewards to support thriving ecosystems... How can we synchronize our actions like a flock of murmuring birds?”

Emilie Heidemann from Carnelian Art Gallery commented on working with Schirmer: “It’s been a fun experience... I can’t imagine a more timely theme.”

The artists have diverse backgrounds. Camille Davis from Wyoming paints natural ephemera and resides in New Mexico. Mark Soderling has painted in various locations including Madison and holds degrees in art and biology. Maria Schirmer specializes in social practice art focused on storytelling and healing.
