For one full year after the Dobbs decision, abortion services ceased in Wisconsin, resuming only after a court ruled that a ban passed in 1849 and still in state law could not be used to prosecute abortion providers. The decision in that case has been appealed, leaving the future of abortion in Wisconsin uncertain.

Tony Evers announced today that the State Capitol and Executive Residence Board (SCERB) has granted final approval for the installation of a sculpture commemorating the life and legacy of Vel R. Phillips. Commissioned by the late artist Radcliffe Bailey, the sculpture is slated for unveiling on the Wisconsin State Capitol grounds in June 2024. This will be the first statue of a Black leader or any person of color featured on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Capitol.

Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision, which ended an individual’s constitutional right to abortion, reproductive freedom and access to contraceptives have been jeopardized. In response to ongoing attempts to limit access to contraception in Wisconsin and states across the nation, Assembly Democrats attempted today to codify the right to access contraception in Wisconsin. However, every single Assembly Republican voted against moving this proposal forward.
