Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

In-state tuition and fees rose 0.2 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Wisconsin residents paid $10,555 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $22 more than the $10,533 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 248.7 percent more than residents this year, or $36,805. Their price tag grew 5.8 percent from $34,783 in 2017-18.

About 53 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Wisconsin residents. About 39 percent are residents of other states and 8 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 62 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,282 students received grants or scholarships totaling $26.5 million and 2,244 students took out student loans totaling more than $18.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (43,463), 13,300 students used grants or scholarships totaling $132.8 million, and 9,927 students took out $69.5 million in federal student loans.
