The Wisconsin Badgers men’s hockey team completed its first sweep of the season by defeating Army 1-0 in its second and final game against the service academy at Kohl Center in Madison.
Fox 47 reported that Badgers senior captain Tarek Baker delivered the go-ahead goal resulting from a stolen puck late in the third period while senior transfer goalie Jared Moe blocked all 19 Army shots.
Baker credited the home crowd for motivating him to go on the breakaway when his Badgers were playing with just four men on the ice.
“The fans cheering and the student section and everybody getting up on their feet just gave me a little extra adrenaline boost,” the 5-foot-10-inch, 190-pound Verona native told the Portage Daily Register. “I was tired but when you’ve got that much open ice, I figured I’d take the chance and let it go.”
Wisconsin finished the night with a 32-to-19 shot advantage over Army, Seehafer News reported.
Riding a two-game winning streak as of Oct. 21, the Badgers reach the .500 mark with a 2-2 record.
Up next is a trip to Minnesota to face St. Cloud State.
