Madison public officials were among those who recently took to Twitter to express gratitude for veterans everywhere in recognition of the Veterans Day holiday.
“Had a great time celebrating Veterans Day @HyVee,” Rep. Sheila Stubbs tweeted. “Thank you to all the brave men and women who have served our country. We are forever grateful.”
State Sen. Melissa Agard also weighed in.
“We honor the heroes and the selfless work they have done to defend our country. Today and always, we thank those who served for their bravery and their dedication to protecting the rights of others,” she said.
All across the state, individuals and businesses alike took time to extend a salute to members of the armed forces, with Applebee’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili’s, Denny’s, Dollar General, Dunkin, Famous Dave’s, Golden Corral, Great Clips, Hooters, Hy-Vee, IHOP, Joann, Little Caesars, Marcus Theatres, Metcalfe’s Market, Michaels, Red Lobster, Sam’s Club, Scooter’s Coffee, Sky Zone Madison, Sports Clip, Starbucks and Target all offering specials ranging from free food and product giveaways to added discounts and savings.
VisitMadison.com reports that the Madison Veterans Council and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans also got into the act, sponsoring the “Salute to All Veterans” ceremony, which was preceded by a free concert at the State Capitol by the Post 1319 VFW Band conducted by Jim Latimer with Josie Picard as the guest vocalist.
