Kristi Maurer hopes her new venture will add even more life to her growing Madison community.
“I am thrilled to be working on this project,” Maurer told Channel3000.com. “This has been a dream of mine, and I could not be more excited to be opening my first grocery store in my hometown.”
WKOW.com reports that the 24,000-square-foot grocery is under construction and is part of the neighborhood’s $40 million mixed-use development, which includes 150 affordable houses.
"I live in Madison, and it's always been near and dear to my heart," Maurer said.
All told, the venture marks Maurer’s third foray into the grocery business statewide. She traces these ventures to her love for Wisconsin and wanting to do right by the people who call it home.
For this latest venture, she decided to step in after the last grocery store in the area closed and word spread that the neighborhood would not have easy, affordable access to produce.
While the grocery does not have an official opening date, it is expected to begin business by 2023, or before the neighborhood Pick N Save is scheduled to close.
