Catholic Vote President Brian Burch criticized Doritos for a recent marketing campaign that included a partnership with a transgender influence. The unsuccessful campaign backfired, with both allegations against the influencer being made public and consumers starting a boycott against the brand.
"In another example of bad judgment shown by corporate America, Doritos partnered with a so-called 'transgender influencer' who had social media postings about violence and pedophilia,” Burch said. “Having outdone Bud Light with this action, a Doritos executive merely demonstrated more ignorance by claiming the company's intent was not to divide people."
Doritos, failing to learn from Bud Light's Dylan Mulvaney blunder, faced boycotts after hiring Spanish singer and actor Samantha Hudson, a "transgender influencer" who has a following on Instagram. After tweets from Hudson were discovered mocking rape victims and desiring to perform "depraved things" on a "12-year-old girl," Doritos ended the social media campaign.
Those calling for a boycott were labeled "extremists" by those who believe a man can become a woman. Defenders of Hudson said his posts were merely a "distasteful joke." Spanish political analyst Arturo Villa tweeted a picture of Pepsi products with the caption, "You should know that if you buy any of these products you will be financing people like Samantha Hudson."
It is too early to tell if the called-for boycott of Doritos rises to the level continued to be suffered by Bud Light.
