The majority of students in Dane County districts were white in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of the 76,842 students attending Dane County district schools, 61.7% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnic group among Dane County's districts, making up 14.8% of the student body.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Dane County districts, representing 62.4% of the student body.

Madison Metropolitan School District had the most even distribution of races among county districts, which included 40.3% of white students, 24.1% of Hispanic students, 18.2% of African American students, 9.5% of multiracial students, 7.6% of Asian students, and 0% of Pacific Islander students.

In the 2022-23 school year, the total number of students enrolled in school districts in the county dropped to 0.4% compared to the previous year.

White students were more likely to graduate from high school than any other ethnic group in Wisconsin. According to recent US Census data, nearly 95% of white students in the state successfully graduated in 2021.
