Residents in Madison are gearing up for the upcoming brush collection by the Streets Division, with set-out dates fast approaching. According to an announcement, "Some neighborhoods’ first set out date is Sunday, March 31, 2024." To find out specific set-out dates for each neighborhood, residents are encouraged to visit the Streets Division’s brush collection website.
Brush, defined as "sticks and branches" cut from trees, shrubs, and bushes, is a key component of the collection process. It is crucial that brush meets certain specifications, as stated by the Streets Division: "Brush must be at least 18 inches in length so it can be safely fed into wood chippers. And brush should be shorter than 8 feet in length and no thicker than 8 inches in diameter."
When preparing brush for collection, residents are advised to follow specific guidelines. "Place your brush at the street edge or on the terrace. Do not let the brush dangle into the street or block the sidewalk," emphasized the Streets Division. Additionally, it is essential to pile the material neatly with cut ends all facing the same direction and avoid mixing brush with yard waste.
To ensure a smooth collection process, residents are urged to keep the brush at least four feet from any obstructions like street signs, utility poles, mailboxes, trees, collection carts, large items, and parked cars. Crews will not collect brush cut by a contractor or yard waste piles, so adherence to the guidelines is essential for efficient collection.
For those interested in utilizing drop-off sites for brush disposal, the Streets Division's drop-off sites accept brush material as well. Residents can verify the location and hours of operation for these sites by visiting www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.
As the scheduled brush collection dates draw near, residents are advised to stay informed about the process and guidelines to ensure a successful collection experience. For more information about Streets Division services and additional details, residents can visit www.cityofmadison.com/Streets.
