Brian Burch, President of Catholic Vote, said the recent amendments to the Affordable Care Act made by President Biden's administration, which would mandate health insurance coverage for elective abortions and transgender surgeries, are "abominations."
"This is another good example of the abominations coming from the Biden Administration," Burch told Madison Reporter. "The First Amendment's protection of our God-given right of religious liberty have never been under greater threat in this nation. Voters who support Biden are helping destroy the moral underpinnings of our country."
According to a report by Fox News, these modifications to Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act have been enacted by Biden's Department of Health and Human Services. The alterations require that health insurance plans cover elective abortions and transgender surgeries. This policy shift puts religious believers in a predicament where they either support procedures that contradict their faith through their health insurance or renounce their insurance coverage altogether. This situation underscores a crucial conflict between healthcare regulations and the safeguarding of religious liberties.
Fox News further reports that the recently revised Section 1557 now extends its coverage to all health insurance issuers and programs administered by Health and Human Services that receive federal funds. It broadens the interpretation of "on the basis of sex" to include "gender identity" and "termination of pregnancy," which could be contentious in the U.S., where over 70% identify as Christian.
Burch is a notable figure in both media circles and the Catholic community. He co-authored "America Catholic Daily Reader," which delves into the influence of key American figures on public life. His insights have been showcased on major news platforms such as Fox News, CNN, along with publications like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. A Political Philosophy graduate from the University of Dallas, Burch also serves as a founding director of the Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast and is a board member at Seton Montessori School in Villa Park, IL. He was honored with the Cardinal O’Connor Defender of the Faith Award by Legatus International. Burch and his wife, Sara, are parents to nine children and reside in Chicago's suburbs.
Catholic Vote is an advocacy organization based in Madison, Wisconsin. Its mission, as stated on the group’s website, is to "inspire every Catholic in America to live out the truths of our faith in public life." Founded in 2008, the organization is currently presided over by Brian Burch.
