Student-athletes, coaches, and fans are preparing for the upcoming athletic season in the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). Beginning Thursday, Aug. 1, students enrolled at any of MMSD’s four high schools are encouraged to register for co-curricular athletics programs.
The 2024-25 athletic season will feature newly renovated facilities across MMSD high schools. These upgrades include improvements to football and soccer fields, tracks, pools, weight lifting gyms, basketball and volleyball courts, locker rooms, concessions, and more. The renovations were funded by community support through a 2020 referendum.
“The public’s commitment to our athletics program is supporting not only high school students but also students in middle school through our new programming and Madison residents who utilize these facilities,” said MMSD Athletic Director Jeremy Schlitz. “It not only grows each individual school community but also connects the entire district together with the greater Madison community.”
MMSD offers approximately 24 different sports programs through participation in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. These programs aim to develop not only athletic skills but also qualities such as commitment, reliability, honesty, integrity, accountability, and perseverance in student-athletes.
The season kicks off with Football, Poms and cheer on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Girls golf, girls tennis and girls swim and dive follow on Aug. 12 and 13. Volleyball, cross country and boys soccer start on Aug. 19.
To register for the 2024-25 athletics season, guardians can log into their Infinite Campus Parent Portal to complete necessary forms. Students must have a current physical date after April 1, 2023 to be eligible to participate; free physicals will be available at each high school’s new school-based community health clinic. More information is available on the MMSD Athletics website.
