As families settled into summer this past June, MMSD staff were ramping up for some of their favorite community events of the year.
MMSD’s summer of engagement kicked off at the annual Juneteenth parade and gathering hosted by the Kujichagulia Center for Self-Determination at Penn Park. There, staff had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of MMSD families and provide important resources.
As summer continued, so did MMSD’s participation at a number of events across the city, such as the Madison Reading Project’s annual Read(y) to Wear literacy fundraiser, Rooted’s student cooking classes at the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center, Urban Triage’s Annual Kickback Summer Sizzle, Parks Alive gatherings at multiple City of Madison parks and more.
Partnerships between MMSD and these local organizations help keep families engaged with the District throughout the year.
“Whether it’s inside our school buildings or out at a community event, it’s so important to build and maintain relationships with our families and organizations,” Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership Carlettra Stanford said. “We want our schools to be a part of the community, and our community to be a part of our schools.”
Keep an eye out for future community events all year long in the MMSD Family Newsletter.
