The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is inviting the Greater Madison community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Centro Hispano of Dane County, located at 2403 Cypress Way.
The event will feature live music, entertainment, and food. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the district’s new superintendent, Dr. Joe Gothard, and other staff members. Information about the district’s literacy initiatives, multilingual education offerings, high school programs and pathways, college financial aid options, and other student support resources such as food service, transportation, and enrollment will be available. The Madison Reading Project will also provide free children’s books to all interested attendees.
“MMSD is a mosaic of dozens of cultures, stories and traditions, all of which we seek to honor and uplift in service of our students and their families,” said Cindy Green, the district’s assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. “This event is about recognizing Hispanic heritage in the spirit of joy, belonging and togetherness, and we hope that all will join us to celebrate in community.”
Limited parking is available on-site; additional parking will be provided at 810 W. Badger Road, 2401 S. Park Street (Park Bank), and 2429 Perry Street (Madison College).
