Community members can stay informed by watching every board meeting on the YouTube channel, MCPASD TV. Below is a recap of the recent Board of Education meeting held on September 23, 2024.
The meeting began with the Superintendent's report delivered by Dr. Dana Monogue. Dr. Monogue highlighted that September 16 marked the first professional development day of the school year, during which staff engaged in various learning and training activities. She expressed gratitude to those who planned and facilitated these opportunities.
Dr. Monogue also emphasized Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) and encouraged everyone to check the District's website for resources and information related to honoring Hispanic contributions.
Additionally, Dr. Monogue congratulated the 23 Middleton High School students recognized as National Merit Semifinalists, noting that MHS has the largest number of semifinalists in Wisconsin this year.
Director of Technology Services Brian Miles presented an update on the MCPASD AI Workgroup. The report highlighted AI's growing impact on traditional learning environments and stressed educating District staff, students, and families on ethical AI use while protecting data. The workgroup plans to expand its membership and continue developing policies and strategies for AI use in education.
Members of the Code of Conduct (CoC) workgroup presented updates focusing on revisions made to improve the District's Code of Conduct, last approved in 2021-2022. Key improvements include new guidance for elementary-level consequences, streamlined content for easier reference, a focus on supportive school communities, and Title IX compliance updates effective August 1, 2024.
Directors Dr. MaryBeth Paulisse and Dr. Jan Chynoweth, along with Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Dr. Silvia Romero-Johnson, provided an update regarding K-8 Literacy/Biliteracy Implementation for the 2024-2025 school year using Savvas curricula grounded in the Science of Reading.
Assistant Superintendent of Operations Jerrud Rossing gave an enrollment update before presenting final numbers at the next board meeting. Enrollment continues to fluctuate but shows an increase compared to last year's data.
