The Streets Division is offering a convenient way for residents to dispose of pumpkins and other compostable decorations by collecting them alongside leaves and yard waste. This service includes items like corn stalks and hay, provided they are free from wires, candles, string, electric lights, and similar materials.

Residents can determine when to set out their pumpkins and yard waste for collection by visiting the Streets Division’s yard waste website at www.cityofmadison.com/YardWaste. By entering their address into the site’s form, residents can find out their scheduled pickup date. Collections occur during the work week following this date.

There are three guaranteed curbside collections available each season. Some neighborhoods have already received two of these opportunities. Weather permitting, additional collections may be offered after the guaranteed rounds conclude in early December. Residents are encouraged to check the website regularly to ensure they do not miss these collection opportunities.

Alternatively, City of Madison residents can bring their pumpkins and yard waste to one of the Streets Division’s drop-off sites. Details about hours of operation and restrictions are available at www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.

For those interested in home composting, pumpkins provide an excellent source of nitrogen to balance carbon from fallen leaves in backyard compost bins. Information on starting home composting is available at www.cityofmadison.com/Composting.

Further details about all services offered by the Streets Division can be found at www.cityofmadison.com/Streets.
