Madison College and the Greater Dane Dental Society collaborated to provide free dental care to veterans on November 10. The event took place at the Madison College Dental Clinic, located at the Truax campus, where veterans received X-rays, dental exams, and referrals for no-cost comprehensive care from local dentists.
The initiative aimed to address the lack of dental care coverage among many veterans. Harold Hollingsworth, a US Navy veteran who attended the clinic, expressed his appreciation: “It’s wonderful that people would dedicate their time to help veterans,” he said. “There would be no country and freedom if it weren’t for veterans."
Dr. Adina Ness, Clinic Director at Madison College Dental Clinic, emphasized the importance of supporting veterans: “With Veterans Day, we wanted to express our gratitude for their sacrifices,” she stated. “This event is a small and humble way to thank them for their service today and every day.”
The event was supported by over 28 dental hygiene and assistant students, 12 staff members from Madison College's various departments, and 10 dentists from the Greater Dane Dental Society. Dr. Moon Lee of GDDS highlighted the need for improved dental health among veterans in Madison: “Many veterans require care but don’t qualify for it through the Veterans Administration," Lee noted.
As part of this effort, more than 20 dentists offered non-cost referral dental care covering procedures such as fillings, root canals, and implants—services that typically incur out-of-pocket expenses for veterans. Additionally, affordable cleanings are available at $30 through the Madison College Dental Clinic.
US Army veteran Roshontla Parks also attended the event and appreciated having access to necessary services: “This is my first Veterans Day that I can enjoy and take care of myself with my Monday appointment,” Parks remarked.
Both organizations plan to continue this partnership annually to support local veterans' dental needs.
