Madison College is set to host a Hmong New Year celebration on December 7 at the Truax Campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, aims to highlight the rich culture and traditions of the Hmong community through performances by artists, dancers, and cultural performers. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore various vendors offering food, traditional clothing, and unique merchandise.
This year's celebration will feature a Hmong Institute exhibit, a photo station with Hmong artifacts, and performances from local talent. A special gesture includes giving an egg to the first 200 guests as a symbol of hope and prosperity for the new year.
"The Hmong New Year is not just about performances but about the beginning of a new chapter and a bountiful harvest. We hope that in this experience we can provide each person with a blessing for the new year,” said Madison College Impact Coordinator Angie Yang.
The event is organized by Madison College's Asian American Student Association, Hmong Allies and Affinity Group, in collaboration with the Madison College Intercultural Exchange and the Division of College, Culture, and Climate. This initiative reflects Madison College's commitment to fostering cultural understanding and inclusivity.
