Rep. Mark Pocan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Wisconsin's 2nd district, has been vocal on several issues through his recent tweets. On December 11, 2024, he addressed topics ranging from tax filing services to national defense priorities.
In a tweet posted on December 11, 2024, Pocan criticized the House GOP for urging former President Trump to terminate Direct File, a service that allows taxpayers to file their taxes for free. He stated: ".@HouseGOP is urging Trump to kill Direct File, which lets you file your taxes for free and has saved folks millions of dollars. The only logical explanation for such a move is that they've prioritized campaign donations from H&R Block & TurboTax over taxpayers like us."
Later that day, Pocan expressed opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in another tweet dated December 11, 2024. He remarked: "There are many reasons to oppose this year’s #NDAA. One reason is the GOP majority’s insistence on prioritizing right-wing extremism over national defense. We need to allow military families to make their own healthcare decisions."
Continuing his critique of defense spending, Pocan tweeted again on December 11, 2024: "Time and time again, Congress is able to find the funds necessary to line the pockets of defense contractors while neglecting the problems everyday Americans face here at home. I voted NO to give the military industrial complex another $895 BILLION check."
