Ice skating enthusiasts in Madison can now enjoy the opening of Tenney Park and Vilas Park lagoons, along with several other rinks, starting today. The facilities are available for free ice skating, with the option to bring personal skates or rent them at Elver, Tenney, and Vilas parks. Staff will be present during the following hours: Friday from 4-8 pm, Saturday from 12-8 pm, and Sunday from 12-6 pm.
Hockey players can find open rinks at Elver and Vilas parks, though currently only Elver Park has boards installed. "At the time of publishing, Elver Park is the only rink open with boards for hockey," a statement noted. There is an expectation that boards will be installed at additional locations next week as conditions permit.
Skate rentals are priced at $6 per adult for the first hour and $3 per youth for the first hour. Each additional hour costs $2 for both adults and youth. Olbrich Park offers loaner skates in limited sizes inside its warming shelter. Other locations will provide loaner skates once their rinks are fully operational.
Groups can reserve winter recreation parties, though all activities depend on weather conditions and may change accordingly.
A winter clothing drive is ongoing until January 31. New or gently used winter clothing donations can be made at select locations.
The community is invited to participate in various outdoor activity events such as Groove & Glide, Candlelight Hike or Walk, Skate Cinema, among others. These events are free to attend.
